Default Relays for Led lightbars

Hi all, couldnt find it anywhere but has someone installed a relay to their led lightbar to make it function like a strobe light? If so is it easy/hard and what parts do I need to it myself? Thank you

Hey jdestreza,

I haven't seen anyone do that before personally but I do not think it would be too hard. You would want your 'strobe controller' to be the switching current to your relay. That way you wouldn't need to worry about how much current the actual LED bar would draw. The strobe controller would function to turn the relay on/off at a regular interval. Just to be safe you might want to make sure you don't surge your LEDs by cycling the relay quickly allowing a spike in voltage. That can usually be accomplished by using what is known as a 'flyback' diode (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flyback_diode). The circuit boards that we make have these already integrated, and I would be happy to let you know how you would be able to use one of our PowerBox systems if you are interested.

In short you would want to end up with power from your battery going through a switch then into the strobe controller then into the relay. The relay would then have power from the battery into the LED controlled by that first circuit. Parts included: strobe controller like this, 12v relay, switch, flyback diode to protect your light, and a fuse to be safe.

Hope that helps a little!
