Hey all i need to get a new Key replaced and re-programed?
my keys got run over.. lolol dont ask...
anyway i droped by my dealer today
and was informed there 198.00 cnd for the keys
then 40.00 to program it.. and there was other fee
and they wonder why there on the downside of sales.. lolol
anyway found a re-placement key fob online and i,ll have a key cut
just wondering if there is a how to program
i looked but cold not find one

I have one key for my 2007, went to Ace Hardware to have second one made. They have the machine to do programable keys, but when they looked up my 07, it said their machine couldn't do it because you needed both keys and then could make a third. Something about both had to be put in ignition to get a code????
Have a good key shop in town, just haven't made it over there yet.

Yup, you need two keys with working chips to program a third.
One working chip and you're gonna get hosed by the dealer.

If your chip is still good and the brass is toast, there's a chance you can fool the system with a generic key and the working chip head near the ignition cylinder. The antenna only has to be near the chip, unlike the GM antitheft keys of years past that had to pass through the resistor in the key.

You can get a non FOB key for as little as 13 bucks online before ship from here - h**p://saveonkeys.net/. I've seen them on Amazon for 24 bucks and anywhere from 26 down to 14 or so on Ebay (again, non FOB). FOB keys run 3 - 5X that unfortunately.

You do need both keys to program a new one. The instructions for programming:

1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.

2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position for at least 3 seconds, but no longer than 15-seconds. Then, turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and remove the first key.

3. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and remove the second key.

4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will stop flashing. To indicate that programming is complete, the indicator light will turn on again for 3 seconds and then turn off".

i still have my key.. the hardware (metal key) is ok
and i think the system board is OK as well
the casing for the key took a beating
i found a place online for 9 bucks
i,ll give it a try.. worse case i,ll save 200 buy buying out source
key and have Jeep dealer code it. if need be..

just wondering if i lost a set.. how would the dealer do it with only one key.
or no keys? there has to be a way with only one Key..

There is, but it involves a very expensive piece of electronic equipment that only dealers and authorized shops are allowed to have. They use it to program the key IDs directly into the computer.

would a locksmith have these tools ??
i just have a feeling the dealer is going to say
sorry its not a mopar part we can not program it...
even if they can.. i think there just getting to money hungry

Possible, but not likely.
The tools can control/change MUCH more than key registration.

I know it sucks, but this is one case where the dealers have consumers over a barrel.
Have you tried fooling the Jeep by cutting a cheapie key blank and holding the chip from the old key close? The chips are pretty tough, even though the head of the key may look mangled.

Yep. And you don't have to go to a Jeep dealer--any Chrysler dealer should be able to do it for you. I say that because a few phone calls may find you a better price. It was $90 to have a new key cut at a nearby Chrysler dealer (after which I went and had my own made using the procedure in the owner's manual for when you have two good keys .. for $35, including key and cutting).

They replaced mine under warranty it stopped working and I thought it might be the battery and a chip had fallen out of it when I opened it up. Went to my dealer and replaced it no questions asked. of course I had to make an appointment to get it programmed but it was free none the less.
