Default Scan tool for D.I.Y.

Hello, just trying to find a scan tool, that allow the same control as the Jeep tool (engine, ABS, ETC, auto trans...), but with less cost. It would be nice to purchase the software modules as I need them.

As you can see I'm new to Jeep world. I'm still the owner of a td5 diesel Land Rover.

Some nice guys sell a small hardware that you attach to a laptop and connect to the OBD connector. Then you use the software module for what you want to test.
It allows to do lots of things with the electronics of the car, including change fuel maps, enable disable options like inmobilizers, TV on after the car is on...

Basic purchase for me was hardware, td5 engine software, alarm software, and that was about 1.200 euros. Not too expensive..

These guys are www.rovacomlite.com and I would like to find something like that but for the JK Jeep.

I'm still waiting for the CRD JK here in Spain, but I'm looking for the tools to fix it..

I like posts like this. It makes me think.
I have not tried this on the JK yet because I forgot I had it. The JK is a OBDII system, so it might be a simple fix. It can't hurt.
The file is how I could get the codes for my 97 TJ and the OBDII messages for Jeep. I am going to give it a try this weekend. If you have any success let me know.

The older ODB II (pre CAN) will not read and clear codes. The newer ones that state CAN on them will. Harbor Freight has one that will for $79.95. I just bought a ScanGauge II for about $165.00 US that does and many other things as well.

I too have a ScanGauge II, it works very well and I guess I have studying to do.

As you know, it does give temp readings, one of them is the air intake. I have one question, does anyone with the ScanGauge II still have the standard air intake? I changed before I got this gauge to a CAI system from AiRaid and would love the compaire numbers.

That would be good info to have Egmont. I too had already installed the Airaid prior to getting the Scangauge II. It is interesting that even with the CAI the temps vary between 9-18 Degrees F from ambient. I am working on an idea to duct outside air to the filter box.

Beermonkey, you must have a later OBD II scanner than mine, it just kept reading "ERROR".

We are now in the 40 degree range and the intake reading is somewhere between 60 and 80, not very good in my opinion. I wonder if the hot air is coming from the radiator? I have to look into it.

Also, did you notice once you start driving, the analog on the dash stays put in the center position and the ScanGauge II reports temps between 180 and 220 and the needle never moves?

yea, you can't expect to good of resolution with the idiot gauge. I really like the Scangauge. I am learning best MPG driving techniques and which gear I need to be in for any given situation. I mostly watch TPS position, timing, instant MPG and IAT temperatures. Only thing I wish it had was a oil pressure readout.

Anyone want to post some pics of how they mounted the ScanGauge in their JKs?
