Default Sirius "cutting out"

I'm new to this Sirius SatRadio (though familiar with Satellite communications) and cannot figure out why my signal will cut out or need to reacquire signal in places that are otherwise open, unblocked and able to "see the sky".

Any ideas on this or is this something to bring up when I go see the dealer about the ABS Recall?

Thanks.

I doubt the dealer will be much help from reading threads here and elsewhere, but i would call Sirius and ask them to send a signal to your unit and see what they can tell you. The might be able to diagnose the problem, thought i would imagine it is simply an antenna issue.

Oh yeah, I still have a separate Sirius unit through FM modulation and i remember that when i set it up, i had to calibrate it to where i am in the country to line it up with the best satellites...maybe that's part of it too?

Let me know, i just got a factory head unit Sirius capable and will be installing soon.

looked this up on the sirius site:
8. Why has my radio lost its signal?
While we do have an extensive network of ground repeaters (towers that rebroadcast our satellite signal to help give maximum coverage) in many metropolitan areas, factors such as microwaves and physical obstruction (bridges and tunnels) can still temporarily disrupt your radio’s reception.

However, this problem is largely held at bay by the four-second buffer created by slight broadcasting delays between our two satellites orbiting over the continental United States and our extensive ground network of repeaters.

Read our Car Installation Tips to get the best reception in your vehicle.

might by like cell phones with dead spots?

Sounds like the dead spots thing more than anything.

Thanks for checking into that!

I just installed an xm reviever in my rig today. Man I freaking love this thing. Dont really know the diff between xm and sirius besides sirius having the stern show, but it was a super easy and clean install and looks very factory. Here's to to listening to satalite radio on trails in the middle of nowhere!

P.S. How much does Sirius run a month? XM is 12 bucks...

If you tell them you want to cancel they will keep giving you better deals until you sign back up. I think we were paying somewhere around 7-8 bucks before we dropped it. Ipod won us over, other wise loved it.

I don't think it's a highjack. I'd be interested myself.

I got a free Delphi Roady XT w/ car kit, all I had to do was 3 months service, but I got free activation and 1 month free service. So I got the whole thing for 2 months activation. If anyone is interested I think it was some type of holiday promo.
I put the antena on the top center of the windshield frame and I only lose signal when under something like the Sonic shack. Although I can be parked in my garage with the door closed and it works there.

I would love to get some pics up on here but my girlfriends damn cat knocked my $400 digital camera off the kitchen table and into its waterbowl yesterday!! Now its a $400 paperweight! I need a beer. (and a kickass christmas present from my girlfriend) btw, I also got the roady xt. The antenna wire runs up the passenger side windshield frame and between the weatherstripping of the soft top to rest on the top of the frame. Its a magnet, so no adhesive on your paint. Gotta go though, im gonna go kick the cat.
