Sirius radio HELP

Hey folks,

I tried using the search function to answer this, unsuccessfully. Can someone post up the link or help me out.

I have a 2007 JK (4 door), stock electrical everything. I just ordered a Sirius/XM Starmate 5 stereo kit yesterday.

I'm not a handy guy, so any Southern Cal install shops you can recommend would be helpful.

I'm most interested in any tips you all have encountered, and welcome any and all recommendations. Especially where to mount that sat. antenna.

Thanks!!! :thumbsup::beer:

What radio unit do you have in your JK? The satellite antenna should be mounted where it has a clear view of the sky. Ideally, it should be mounted on a metal surface too. The OEM GPS antenna is on the roll bar over the passenger side. The SiriusXM tuners that I have seen have a wire bundle that plugs into the back of your radio...IF it is SAT radio ready.

That could be a whole host of options. Look at the front panel and there should be a code at the bottom right (3 letters I think)
Maybe someone else will chime in here with some assistance. Taking the OEM radio out of the thing is a very simple task that just about anyone can do. Pop the top plastic cover, remove two screws with a 1/4" driver and GENTLY pop the front plastic cover panel off. Remove 4 screws at the front and two more on top. Slide the unit out the front. If your OEM unit is SAT ready the tuner hook up could be a simple plug-and-play affair.

Ok,

Thanks for the help, I did see a button that said "Sat" on it. I'm not a scientist, but I suppose that means it's Sat ready?

That's what I would think...SAT ready. There is probably a connection port on the back of the OEM radio that is specifically made for SAT receivers. Hopefully someone else will chime in here. There is really no way for me to know for sure, though. If it is infact SAT ready, then installing the tuner should literally be a plug-and-play deal. Once you get it all hooked up, call SiriusXM and have it activated. You will have to purchase a subscription plan. Make sure you have the Jeep turned on and the SAT receiver tuned to whatever channel they tell you to. The rep will send it an activation signal. The SAT receiver will then start downloading the channel line-up list and such...a process that can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

Your radio should be sat ready. You do not need to purchase anything but a subscription.

I was mistaken, there is no Sat button on my stock JK radio.

Doh! Thanks for the replies anyways fellas.

Cheers!

I have mine mounted between the 2 center vents. Same spot where the power windows would go if you had any.
