Stock HeadUnit- Does it Create this many Problems?!
Ok so I did some research and bought the following
-polk 6501 for the front dash and tweeters
-Polk 651s for the soundbar
-Alpine KTP-445U 4 channel Amp Alpine KTP-445U "Power Pack" Upgrade any car radio to 45 watts RMS X 4 at Crutchfield.com
-Infinity Baselink Sub (200 watt).
I didn’t want mess around with installation as I am not 100% sure what I am doing (didn’t want to mess up taking out the dash). So i paid an audio installation place to install for me and they quoted me $275.
First they said that they could not install the amp because it would Amp up the Bluetooth on the stock Headunit and they could not control that. So it would be way to loud.
I have never heard of this but they said they could balance it out to sound nice without the amp.. WRONG.
The in dash tweeters were way off balance- I could tell i was missing part of the music. It sounded like they wired the crossover wrong. Also the highs were wayy to high, to the point that it was annoying.
The in dash Polks created an extreme vibration that vibrate my entire dash ( and even brake pedal). This was at low volumes too, its not like I was blasting my radio. Also the speaker sounded like it was blow, creating terrible sounding bass (its not blown brand new).
I had to fix the soundbar speakers myself as they were not even secured. I could hear them moving around when I would go over a bump..
The Infinity Baselink sub was not connected directly to the radio Head Unit. It seems like they just Split the speaker wire from the right side of my car to feed it to the Bass. I say this because 1) I can tell that the sub is missing certain notes that it should hit. 2) Because if i use the EQ to send the sound to the drivers side of my jeep the bass has no sound. If i move the sound to the passenger’s side, the bass comes back full blast.
I called the shop and asked them about all this, they basically said this is all because of the stock HU. That is why it was only coming out the right side if I messed around with the EQ. They claimed that the base sounded normal but they are trying to cover it up.
I know that they installed everything wrong. I had them take out the Polk tweeters and put the stocks back in because of the balance issue. I couldn’t stand to listen to the radio.. I was also getting extreme feedback on the driver’s side tweeter when the radio was on, even when the volume was turned down (a static sound).
I was extremely excited about getting this project finished; instead I am left with a new jeep that has a broken sound system.
I could use advice in the following areas:
1) I called the shop, they are saying it’s all the Head unit and I need to go back to stock speakers they are willing to do that for me. But the problem is i know the first time they put them in they never took the dash off.. I asked what they did, and they said that they had one guy pull it out and the other one installed the speaker? Because of this, I am wondering if all this vibration is coming from the fact that speakers aren’t screwed in fully. So I am debating on cutting my losses and going somewhere else. The Jeep is brand new and i don’t want them to snap something or warp something on the dash because they don’t know what they are doing.
2) Is there some truth to what i was told? I have been hearing mixed things about trying to upgrade a stock headunit.. Can I not upgrade the speakers to get better sound if i keep it. I had a 2007 jeep wrangler Sahara with the infinity sound system. I was really happy with that believe it or not. The head unit seems the same meaning it should have a sub output. Is this not correct? All I was trying to do was have a nice clean sound with some bass. I drive people around for work so don’t want to replace the HU and loose the functionality that comes built in with it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks.

I have been researching this to death and even consulted with two of my friends with 2012 JKS, Ihate to say this, but it sounds like they ripped you off. They half-assed the entire job. I would either tackle it myself or find someone that can be recommended to you. I would also keep an eye on them when they install. I always do that.
If you want to keep the factory head unit, you will have to buy a summing eq. of some kind. The signals coming out of the amp are really chopped up. Meaning that your tweeters get their own signal, the roll bar speakers are very limted, and the sub has a lot to be desired. You should look at an Audison Bit10, JL Clean Sweep, one of the Audiosource products, etc. This would connect AFTER the factory amp. It will take all 8 channels of amplification, sum the frequencies, clean up the sound and give you a full signal out to six channels.
If you don't want to summing eq, you will need to change out your head unit and your amp(s).
I personally chose not to mess with the stock HU and ordered my JK Saraha with the least amount of stock stereo equipment I could so I can change it ALL out. Wish I could have ordered it completely without.
