Subwoofer Wiring help
I have looked all over the place and cant find an answer to the fallowing questions....
I am replacing my blown factory sub with a hertz 4om sub..
so i take out the factory speaker to find out it has 4 wires conecting to the speaker. each pair are solid black and solid light green... this does not match my color code print out. im guessing black is negative...
second... why 4 wires? 2oms per pair? making a total of 4oms into the speaker???

The factory sub is a dual voice coil sub. I believe it is dual 2 ohm. If you have a single 4 ohm speaker, I would take it back and get a dual 2 ohm, otherwise it will get very little power out of the amp.

but thanks for the info.. no one seemed to know this couldent find specs on the net anywhere
any way other than having the wires connected would have the amp running at 4ohms for a single 4ohm VC subwoofer. Since the fact. amp would run at 1 ohm stock its also stable at 4 ohms, but your then underpowering the subwoofer and the factory setup might actually be better if you wanted more power.
A 1000 watt amp at 1 ohm is more powerful than if it were run at 4 ohms. The way a sub can be hooked up to the amp dictate which amount of power is sent to the subwoofer from the amp. Thus dual voice coil subs have more ways to be wired either higher or lower, unless a dual pair setup, for the rating on a subs power handling

Yes wiring in parallel will give the most power.
