Have you tried a thumb drive with music files on it? If not, would you mind trying? Thanks

Same issue. I use the command "USB" and it gives a low pitched beep and witches to AM. Say "Bluetooth" and get the same result. Say "Main Menu" and it gives me the option to say either USB or Bluetooth Streaming Audio, but when I say either of those I get the error beep and switches to an alternate source.

Burned a cd to a thumb drive that was previously formatted, so only music files on it. Plugged it in and it lit up showing it had power. Hit the voice button and said "USB" but, again, got the dual low tone and switched back to the original source or switches to AM. Very sad :(

Enzo is 100% correct! your radio will not play music from an iPhone or a USB thumb drive. The best you can do is transfer the music from your thumb drive to the HDD and play music from you iPhone via an audio cable. The radio in your wife's vehicle, while it looks the same externally is different, my wife has an '08 aspen and I have '14 wrangler which seems to be the opposite of your situation, I can stream from an iPhone and a USB thumb drive and the best she can do is use an audio cable and our radios look exactly the same.

If your radio had the ability to play from an iPhone or USB thumb drive it should simply work the moment you plugged it in.

Good luck figuring everything out.

Edit: BTW found this site http://www.driveuconnect.com/sitemap/ listing the features of the '11 and found this site offering refurbed radios http://oemautopartsco.com/products/r...an-b-low-speed if this site is to be believed you have to buy an aftermarket kit to allow for iPhone integration

Well thanks everyone for your help. This was my initial thought, I'm just glad to have confirmed it. I like the stock look of the RES radio so as not to attract thieves with a nice touchscreen unit. Looks like I'll just have to find one that is from an '11 or newer. Thanks again everyone. Much appreciated!

The RES radio does not have a HD, it's a basic AM/FM CD player. So you won't be able to download your files to it.
I have seen on a 2008 RES where the radio itself didn't recognize the IPhone on the AUX setting and I was able to get it to play using that voice command. Let me look into this a bit more, ok.

Thanks to Xsdbs this problem has been solved! An RES radio from a newer model wrangler is what it took to get the USB port from the uConnect module to work properly.
I wanted to keep an RES style radio since I have half doors and a soft top and don't want to give any potential thieves a nice touchscreen target. Now I have all the features I was hoping to get (USB connectivity, Bluetooth music streaming, uconnect, Sirius satellite radio). Thanks to XSDBS. couldn't have done it without you!

You are very welcome. I was sure that we'd get it worked out and glad that you now have a fully functioning system.
Yeah, you don't want to give a thief any reason to break in and damage your vehicle.

dtflick I'd like to get some additional details about which RES radio you solved your problem with. I just bought my daughter a 2007 JKU for her first vehicle and want to have it set up so she can make and receive calls without the phone in her hand. Also she would love to be able to listen to the music she has on her iPhone also without the phone in her hand. If I understand correctly your JKU doesn't have the steering wheel radio controls and you are able to do all these above mentioned things through the radio itself right? If so than I need to purchase a 2011 or newer RES radio and a Uconnect modular and connectivity package. Then do I have to go to the Jeep dealer to have it synced or activated? Did you do the install yourself, if so how much time was invoked? Any tips for a new JKU owner on this type of install?
Thanks

The best option is a 2011 and newer radio with the Uconnect buttons. This is because BT streaming audio became a supported feature in 2011. As for the Uconnect kit, you'll need PN 82212159 and if she's going to also us an Ipod, then you'll want the optional cable PN 82212160. After the install is done, you'll need to take the vehicle to the dealer to have them flash it to sales code RSP. You'll find that the dealers will charge between 50 & $100 to flash it so call around.

I have a 2013 Sahara with uconnect. I charge my iphone from the usb but that's it. I do play music from my iphone from the Bluetooth connection and it works just fine.
