Default Upgrading to factory fogs

I got a front bumper with the factory fog lights in it and can't find any place that sells the wiring harness. Jeep dealer said the only way they sell it is with the lights which runs something like $200.

Anyone added the factory fogs and have some advice of where I can buy the wiring harness? Thanks

Default What I did

I recently did something like this. I bought a rubi front bumper with the fogs. The guy had cut the wires really close to where the connector meets the fog lights. So I had to solder some wires to extend them. I then ran those wires up and followed some of the factory wiring routing. I then removed the front grill to get access to the pass side headlights. I then added a new wire spliced on to the low beam signal. I ran this wire to a relay that I bought at Radio Shack for 6 bucks. Part 275-226 (UPC 040293130206) . The Low beams are my "trigger" to turn on and off the lights. This worked for me. I hooked up the proper terminals to the battery and to the fog lights. It works that when i click the high beams the fogs turn off, as others has mentioned is some kind of law in some states. I put what crappy pictures I had on piccasa. http://picasaweb.google.com/philfronz/FogLights

Overall the install was pretty easy.

My situation is almost exactly like yours. Another JK-Forum member gifted me with a nice stock bumper with factory tow hooks and fogs, but kept the wiring harness to do his upgrade. I bought an auxiliary wiring harness kit off eBay for less than $12.00 shipped. It included a relay, switch, something that looked like the 99th generation copy of some instructions and all the wire except the last foot or so that plugs into the socket holding the bulb in the back of each fog light.

My solution was to pay another JK-Forum member $25.00 for a set of factory pigtails he was parting out of a full wiring harness. When it gets here, all I will have to do is splice the hot side to my eBay harness and ground the other.

Of course, this doesn't help you much, but what I was going to do before this deal came up was to order this kit from my Jeep Dealer who gives me 25% off list:

Fog Light, Installatio*n Kit

Part Number: 82210549

Vehicle Description: 2008 Wrangler

Jumper Harness, Connects production fog lamp wiring to bullet style Mopar Fog Lamps. 18" long. Used when installing Mopar bumpers in place of production fog light equipped bumpers.

List Price $22.55

If this plugs into your fog lights, and I think it might, you could get this done cheaper than the deal I put together. By the way, I saw a wiring kit like the one I got off eBay for $12.50 instock at Autozone. Good Luck.

I did this. I didn't buy the wiring harness though. I went to autozone and found some plugs that fit in the bulbs. I think they were 9003 or 9005? But I am dead tired and not sure. Take the bulb in with you and pop open a couple packs I promise they sell one that fits. Don't try to find the H10 or whatever the bulb says it is. The way I wired them is I ran a constant hot to midway drivers side under the hood, and attached a 12v relay with the trigger wire going to the parking brakes. I didn't want to clutter my interior with after market switches. I hid the relay behind that plastic. I soldered all the connections and used heat shrink and that waterproof elec. connector stuff on all the connections. Then I bound it with plastic wire cover and ziptied it all up clean. If I have to remove my bumper I just pull apart the two weatherproof connections.

Most of these guys that have bought the complete harness just for the locker pigtails will have them.

Post up in the wanted section. I just sold mine...

Folks the pigtails you seek are available at any auto parts store.

The bulb in the factory fogs is a GE 9145, the pigtail you get for $5 at the auto parts store is 9005 plug.

I am making the wiring harness for my upgraded bumper too.

I am putting a relay distribution block between the battery and the fuse box, theres a place just asking to be filled there. Then I'm installing a four switch panel in the interior and running the wires to the relays. I will have three more switched/relayed outputs ready to go as I add more stuff.
