Default Wire Gauge Size for different lights

So after a couple hours of Google searching I am just going to ask for some assistance.

I just received my LIFETIME LED 50 inch Light Bar and it has a bout a 1 foot lead on it. I am not sure of the wire gauge size that it is using. I have an SPOD so I need to buy some wire to run to the SPOD. I was thinking 14 gauge would be fine. Also, I am planning to rewire my Rigid Dually's which I currently have running off the stock wiring to the canbus. So I am hoping to just get 25 foot spools of 14 gauge and be able to use it for both projects. Anyone have any insight , I would appreciate it.

All depends on you load and length of wire. Look up a dc wire size calculator or use a chart like this one to determine the correct size to use: http://www.bluesea.com/support/artic...r_a_DC_Circuit

I generally use 12ga for just about anything lighting related because its what the local parts stores tend to carry more of. but 14ga should be fine for what you are doing

14 and 16 gauge is fine. 12 Gauge is over kill, but its always better to be looking at it than looking for it. However LED lighting does not draw as much power.

You should try to match the gage of the lead wire. 12 ga is definitely overkill for a LED light, unless you're needing to run 100ft of wire to it. There is a science to determining the proper wire and fuse size. Depends on amperage draw and length needed to cover the distance. Most 12v suppliers have wire size charts in their websites. I'm sure the manufacture has a recommended size for it too.
