2007 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited.. I bought it NEW ... now This. ? ! ? ! ? !
2007 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited engine knock. I bought this Jeep new. All maint as required. very little oil consumption, nothing like what I have read on these forums. Never ran the Jeep hard at all. used as a second ride, just a pleasure ride . Been to Jeep Beach a couple times . A few short trips. usually sits in the garage. I'll drive it some on the weekends . so , the Jeep sit in the garage a couple weeks without being started and I decided to get it out and drive it to town ( 5 miles) start it up and back out , get to the 1st red light and hear this .crazy loud engine knock..........?? What the heck ?? and Jeep wont do anything about it !! Mechanic says I'll have to replace the engine. and don't drive it , because if it locks up , it could screw up the transmission... (auto) .....

Since it is over 5 years old, the warranty is up. If it were me, I would take it to another shop, and get another opinion. FWIW, flex plates are a lot cheaper than engines. How many miles does it have?

FCA reimbursed
Just had to replace 2010 jk engine with factory remanufactured at 65,000 out of warranty because I was at 5 yr 10 mths. Cost $6800. I contacted FCA and explained in detail and very politely asked them to consider the mileage etc. they agreed to reimburse me for all parts and part of rental car cost.

I bought a 2007 in August 2007 and drove it until last Jan. It had 104,000 miles on it when I traded it on a 2015 Willys W. The 2007 had a lifetime warranty on anything bathed in an oil. It was running good. Check when you bought it and the details. However, if you had the lifetime on the drivetrain, you would have been called in at 5 year intervals for the inspection. Its still something worth checking into.
