JKGizmo's JK build

Well I might as well start a build thread! I have had this 2016 2dr Rubicon for about a year now. Got a smoking good deal on it with only 40K miles on it and came with poison spyder bumpers and full skid plated belly and the Mopar 2" lift.

So the first changes made were new 35" Cooper STT Pro tires and mounted on a used set of wheels I liked better and picked up from SV_Dude. Put on some KDB fender flares, Rock Krawler X factor control arms but kept the Mopar 2" lift springs that the jeep came with and a Ramsey winch. Got set up with CB and GMRS.

Next up is to install all the parts I have been piling up. I've been in the middle of building a house or they would have been installed by now. Here is my stockpile.
Currie HD 60 front axle, stock width with RCV 35/32 spline axles and Ried knuckles and 5.13's
Currie High pinion Rear axle with 40 spline stock width and 5.13's
Dynatrac Pro Grip JK big brake kit
Metal Cloak 3.5" lift springs and new brake lines
Method 105 bead locks 17 x 9" with 3.5 back spacing with the Coopers for now.
Still in the air is shocks. Really want the King 2.5 w/res and adjusters but not sure I really need the reservoir shocks. The King 2.0 are half the price. Opinions?

You will require aftermarket driveshafts soon after that lift is installed. Too much angle on those rzeppa stock joints.

TheDirtman 07-22-2022 06:39 AM

I would not bother with the adjusters and you don't need 2.5" by any means. Coil overs or smoothies? What is the WMS of the axles?

JKGizmo 07-22-2022 07:03 AM

The front drive shaft is a woods driveshaft with the 1350 joint and might work but the rear is being replaced as well.

Dirtman, I like that answer, save a little $. They will be smoothies. I've decided not to go with coil overs this time. Do you prefer Kings with the 3/4" shafts or the Fox with 5/8" shafts? Does it matter? The Currie 60's are 66" wms. I do a lot of trails on riverbeds/washes here in AZ and like being a little more narrow. The 3.5 backspace will give me 1" each side more than I am now. With the rotated diff covers it appears I don't loose much ground clearance until I move up to 37's. Just spent to much on those Coopers to not get some life out of them.

TheDirtman 07-22-2022 07:28 AM

Really if I were you I would not spend the money on kings or fox, I prefer king but if you are just getting smoothies I would go with the Metal Cloak rocksport shocks. More travel than Fox and a better ride. You are better off going wider with axles and using more back spacing, less wear and tear on the ball joints and bearings. Also gives you more tube for brackets adn bigger shocks/coilovers. when you move to 37's you will wish you had a 68-69" WMS. Those axles would be great for a TJ. If you already have them it is what it is.

Wow! my shock budget went from $2400 down to under $500 and a better ride. The difference will more than cover the driveshafts. Thanks for pointing me in the Metalcloak direction.

This just makes me smile. After bending a rear axle on the Rubi 44 and how many people tweek the inner C on the front I knew my path would end here. Really for me its more a piece of mind thing. I hate breaking anything on the trail. The Reid knuckle and RCV axles will finish off the front and I'm just blown away at the size of the 40 spline rear axles with set 80 bearings. The portion sticking out beyond the housing is the size of my wrist!

Why stay semi float? seems odd to go 40 spine and run 5 lug? Whats that set up run? I was looking at a set of Fusion semi float for a customer.
