advice on roofrack and some
new to forum and JKU 2016, not totally green to off-roading (did some light trails in unmodified LR Discovery1 years back);
modding it to go more seriously off-road, bumpers, 12klb winch, front skid plate, rock sliders and lights so far.
Would give it a 2.5-3" lift and 35" tires down the road.
Questions for now:
-what roof rack for a canoe with top off;
-what recovery straps/anchor gears/kit should I start with (synthetic rope winch);
-recommendation on battery upgrade:
That's for starters, thanks

Welcome. Roof Racks are plentiful on the internet and at most offroad equipment vendors but you will need a full rack that mounts on the A pillars and rear bumper area for top off use. Take it on and off for top removal re-install. Winch pick one but most popular is Smittybilt and Warn with the latter being more money. You choose wire or synthetic rope they both have goods and bads about them. Good 30,000lb recovery rope not strap because they are easier to manage when not in use, soft shackles (4), tree straps and snatch block (I meant. Where did turnbuckle come from? haha). Lots of other things not mentioned. Battery get the best CCA and AH rating that will fit in the Jeep battery box. Stay away from Lithium IMO as they don't like the hard and fast charge from the alternator when low. I will use AGM type for next battery. Costco have them as Energizer brand.

I'm really surprised someone doesn't make a simple 2 bar cross support that attaches to the rollbars, even if requiring you to remove the cover and padding, for something like a canoe or kayak. Seems so silly to have to use a full A-pillar to bumper mount that you would have to remove and reinstall each time you took the top on/off. Add a decent snatchblock to the recovery gear list above, and honestly, a $55 winch cover to protect that line and winch from the UV rays is well worth it and often not thought about till someone is having to replace a synthetic line.

Thanks for pitching in.
Really wouldn't be hard to fabricate if able to weld. If not, and if you can explain a simple design/drawing, I can't think it wouldn't cost too much to have someone fabricate it for you. Not talking something that is under tremendous load. Just need something to support the canoe and keep it off the jeep, while providing a way to strap it down. Personally, I ditched rollbar padding and covers years ago and without that junk I see how easy it would be for me.
After cursory readings, not sure if kinetic rope, with all its advantages, can replace non-stretchable..., what are the circumstances of either being used?, or in what they cannot be subbed?

I mean, unless you're out there getting a running start to "yank" somebody, there's no need for a kinetic rope IMO. that is not the sort of recovery we are doing in these jeeps. honestly, the only time i've ever used an actual tow strap in a recovery is when i had to change a winch line direction with a snatchblock, so i had to use a tree saver there, which then left me using a recovery strap as a tree saver from the main anchor location.
