Alternative to a Hi-Lift

Not sure I ever posted this, so thought I should.
I saw this used by another Jeeper during an outing and so made myself one. I've found it more useful than the hi-lift. To the point I no longer carry a hi-lift. I place a 2x12x10 under the base for a wider platform. The 'cradle' fits to the axle housing tube and I lift the jeep by the axle rather than the body. This gets the vehicle off the ground faster than the hi-lift as you're not waiting for your suspension finish traveling. The jack I use is a 12T because that's what I had in my garage. The metal was given to me by a local shop as scrap. It's 1 1/4" DOM used as a sleeve to slip over the lift point of the jack and a piece of 'C' that is 4" wide and 2" tall and 4" long. I like it! And you can still use the jack without it in other applications.

My cousin and I put something similar a while back for use with my bottle jack. For the top pice we used a piece of angle iron to make a V shape to hold the axle. No picture at the moment. Works pretty good.

The stock scissor jack works very well with a decent base under it.

You guys are missing the point of a Hi-Lift jack. It isn't for changing tires on pavement, it is for getting unstuck off-road.

From watching more than a few folks struggle to change a tire -off pavement- with a hi-lift and then watching a fellow use one of these to change one -off pavement- with ease... I'll stick to this. Or am I still missing the point... define 'unstuck'... |
A highlift definitely has its place, but for changing a tire, on or off road, it's NOT the best tool.
