Default Hi-Lift vs. Farm Jack

What's the difference between a hi-lift and a farm jack? I was at TSC the other day saw a farm jack, and it's less than half the price of a hi-lift. It seems that the only advantage the hi-lift has is the minimum jacking height.

Here's a link tho the farm jack

Would this be an equivalent less expensive alternative?

Yes. A lot of people use farm jacks. They're pretty much the exact same thing, but you're paying for the hi-lift name. Also, in general, those style of jacks suck, so I'd save my money if I were you.

Why do they suck? Growing up on a farm, my grandfather used one for almost everything...and from what I've seen they are extremely useful on the trail. What do you suggest I spend my money on? (I'm new to the jeep & off roading community and would love to learn)

I got a tailgate jack mount for sale if interested. What are you using jack for? Do you have larger tires that the factory one is too short?

I use mine every now and then; it's a Hi-Lift brand and I've had no complaints!
If you buy one, please watch a few videos and read the article over on Expedition Portal so you don't accidentally knock your teeth out when it comes crashing down!
Also, there are few places on a stock JK that you can use these jacks. They're almost worthless unless you have steel armor from which to lift.

Pretty much the same thing. As someone mentioned above - learn how to use it properly. Improper usage can lead to serious injury to you and/or your Jeep.

I have a farm jack from Harbor Freight. No problems whatsoever. Just take care of it and learn to use (this style) jack properly and it should serve you well for years. No reason to pay for the name IMO.

I have the 48" high lift.. and there's a very good reason they call them Widow Makers... Now I have found a piece from JEEPNEEDS that helps a lot... and it works..
