jeep noobie here, looking for your methods from switching into and out of 4 hi & lo

ive been able to get into and out of 4 hi and lo in my 08 rubicon (just bought it with 48k miles) and its rare that i can do it easily.

i usually always have some grinding going on, and since its recommended that the vehicle be rolling a bit ive ran into a couple of times when i was almost in a pickle being in neutral and stuck between 4 hi and 4 lo and almost not be able to get into any gear.

all that said should it be a major pita going from 4 hi to lo and back every time? or should it be pretty easy?

No should be rolling a bit like 4-5 mph

^ive read both methods a lot, but the manual says slightly rolling. even with a slight roll i have grind sometimes.

I have to stop and shift. My shit grinds. I drive a auto

4 hi just shifr, 4lo slow roll, put trans in neutral and use firm pressure on 4wd shifter, should go into 4lo without any grinding. If you have to force it you're doing something wrong.

I had problems at the beginning, but when I shift from 4Hi to 4Low or vice versa, I have it in neutral. Makes it smooth as butter.

This is gonna sound dumb but I just follow the pattern on the shifter. Initially someone told me you had to "slam" it into 4l...just folks the pattern and now it shifts smooth all the time...no grinding either!

From 2wd -> 4wd HIGH: stopped or moving up to ~ 45 mph

From 4wd HIGH -> 4wd LO: Rolling about 1-4 mph (Be in neutral AND have clutch depressed (If 6 Speed)

From 4wd LO -> 4wd HIGH: Rolling about 1-4 mph (Be in neutral AND have clutch depressed (If 6 Speed)

From 4wd HIGH -> 2wd: stopped or moving up to ~ 45 mph

Hope this helps.
