RIver Crossing

Ok I could find any other threads... I've been looking at doing a river crossing in the Jeep and wanted some advice as to what to do and what not

Thanks in Advance

Slow and steady. Keep a bow wave in front of you, and if you happen to stall do not try to crank the engine back on.

It probably goes without saying not to cross if the current is strong and the water deep.

If you have a manual try not to shift when the trans is under water. Also know that the axle breather tubes and air box could get water in if the water is too high. I personally would not go in water above the frame without a snorkel and raising the breather tubes. Jeep is just to expensive to risk.

x2 on the not shifting a manual when submerged... Debris could get between the clutch plates and make for an expensive "lesson learned".

To me the investment of a little over 300 bucks was worth it... just that much more insurance from a hydro-lock, even though flooding your Jeep presents other problems as well.

i enjoy water sports myself which i why i got snorked also.

I don't think that a JK is good to go in deep water. A snorkle is not enough. There are too many electrical terminals without protection. The water goes easily into the axles, etc
Water is a very expensive hobby! When I had my first JK, after a week I wheeled to the Terrebonne's Trail, and I had to replace my alternator.
