Default Anyone paint their d-ring shackles?

I know it's a useless trail mod but I saw a pair of all red D-ring shackles this weekend but since I already have a set of 4 (actually 3 since I lost one on the trail a month ago) I didn't really want to fork over the $ for new ones based on just color. However, if it's easy to get paint to stick to them then I'm all for it.

So....anyone do this yet?

I haven't done it, but I don't see a reason not to do it, I wouldn't buy them just for the color

This is exactly why I want to paint them. If they get scraped up then I can fix it myself. But if they don't hold paint very well then I don't want to waste my time. I'm just not digging the chrome look they have right now.

I would just scruff them up with some sand paper before you paint, let us know how it works out though!

I painted mine and they hold color just fine. I've run them through auto car washes countless times with no issues. They were originally gold.

Had to add this pic as it's what my Jeep actually looks like at this particular moment....

I have my hitch D-ring covered with three coats of Rustoleum (rust-preventitive paint) and so far doing great, even if I scrapped/plowed the D-ring through dirt/gravel. I may touch it up sometimes soon thou. Cheap & easy.
