Hemi Conversion.

Are there any other companies other than the one in MN doing this? I realize they are probably the best, but that price is steep (You can buy a 6.1 with a whole SRT8 wrapped around it for 38 new). I also in North West so MN is going to cost a few G's to have the JK trucked there, and another few to have it trucked back... and I'm not driving it that far... the 37's and 2,500 miles would drive me nuts.

I found a web site www 4 wheel supply com that has radiator, wiring harness, computer, headers, powersteering hose, etc for a conversion... about 4K for all the parts. 5.7's are cheap, 6.1's are about 8-12K depending on how used they are.

There is a couple sponsors on here that do it, take a look at the sponsor section. Also, AEV Conversions is in the works now...take a look at them :yup:

Almost looks like this is getting close to being a DIY project with the amount of things that are available to make this conversion happen.

Only think I haven't noted are motor mounts? Could they be the same?

What tranny to use is another question.

Seth.

Seth, Where are you located at? That will kind of determine what to do. While I agree that there is alot available to almost make it a DIY kit....it is not there yet. So I would be careful about that!!! :eek2:

I'm the Seattle area... I'm seeing that it is almost DIY, but I'm sure there is a lot of hidden "oh sh!t" stuff that we don't get to hear about...

That place in Vancouver sounds interesting!

Seth.

Was at Burnsville on monday having some extra lights installed. Dan knows his shit. He just got an order to ship a half dozen hemi jeeps to China. 4 wheeler magazine was there also. Future hummer project. He knows Hemi conversions.

Why is everyone so hung up on the hemi's? I understand its a jeep, but the hemi's really aren't worth the money(IMO). I mean 8-12k for a used 6.1? COME ON! Personally I think the 5.7 is gutless in the trucks and the 6.1 sure is fun in the SRT8, but still not worth 8-12k USED. If I really wanted to run a V8 I would definitely get a crate chevy. Save a bunch a money, and have 100 times the aftermarket for the motor.

The difference between a crate chevy and any of the motor conversions that Burnsville or AEV does it the fact that the wiring is just plug and play with some simple Starscan programming. All the guages and electronic systems function just like they would with the stock engine. A crate chevy wouldn't be a bad idea if you basically were going to gut the Jeep and replace all the wiring and guages. Check out http://www.offroadevolution.com/ to see a Caddy motor swap where they pretty much gut a stock JK.
