How to neuter a Jeep in one simple step

Going back to Rubi tires from 35x12.50 Nitto Grapplers.
:sad2:

I've had more comments in the past week than since I've owned the Jeep.
She looked good, damned good, especially with the blacked-out Sahara rims.

Unfortunately, she still has the factory 3.73 gears and new gears aren't in the cards for the foreseeable future.
She would wheeze to get going, wouldn't hold gear at highway speeds, and MPG dropped like a freaking rock in all driving situations.

Woodweavil needs the TPMS modules, so I'm dismounting the tires and removing the TPMS from the wheels tomorrow. Chances are high these 4 tires (plus one very worn spare) will soon end up for sale on here or craigslist. <sigh>

sorry for your loss....

I have 35s and 3.73 with no problems... why don't you try a 33" tire instead of going back to 32s?

I run 35s and 3.21s. Theres no way I would downgrade from 35s for MPG/all the other reasons you mentioned. I mean it makes sense, but so do a lot of other things that I would never try. Sorry for your loss.

(that being said, I have 5.13s sitting in my basement a few weeks away form install:brows:)

But you have a manual, he has an auto. Completely different performance between the two.

 :boohoo: Sorry man
Msnusl transmissions are easier to put up with bad gears and large tires. Automatics, you're driving in the gear you're told to. unless it's first or second. lol

A programmer would help alot if you don't have one. When I put on 35's, my jeep wouldn't hold 70 mph without constantly downshifting. With my superchips, I run 70 mph at 1950 rpm.

Rawb77 04-30-2010 06:24 AM

I would agree. Look into superchips and regear! Dont sell your tires! Use them as an excuse to upgrade more!

Don't get down on yourself. You're doing a smart thing AFAIC. People who shoehorn larger tires on their rig when they're not prepared to regear are doing things out of order IMO. Besides, it's not like stock Rubicon rubber will render your JK useless or incapable of traveling some fun, interesting trails.
