That is a great idea on the mirrors. Why don't you show us and tell us more. I think you are on to something here.

Pretty easy to build. All you need is:
1 Piece of ½” I.D. black pipe
2 2—5/16 nuts
3 2—5/16 bolts ( by 2 ½” I think)
4 4—5/16 washers
5 4—3/8 washers
6 2—cheep-o mirrors ( with mounting L brackets)
7 4—3/8” nylon washers

1 Bend the pipe to your desired length. I believe mine is about 12 “ tall by about 6” wide. I actualy made the passanger side stick out a little farther by about an inch or so.
2 Place one of the 5/16 nut inside the pipe for the door mount. I collapsed the end of the pipe a little with a hammer just for added strength . And then weld on a 3/8 washer to cap it off.
3 Weld on the mirror mount to the other end.
4 Paint to desired finish.

Mounting is easy. Just hold your new mirror assembly over the top door hinge. Run the 5/16 bolt up from underneath and thread into the nut previously incapsulated in the end of the pipe. I used the nylon washers to protect the hinge.
