The mountaineer rack doesn't attach to the front roll bar. It attaches with a C clamp type connection to the rear roll bar and up front a Z shaped bar goes from the bottom of the cage to the nuts that hold the rear seats down. At the very front of the "trunk".

Did you ever actually try it with the top down yet? I don't see how it could work. If the top does fold down properly, I plan to buy one of these racks, but only if the top folds properly with the rack in place.

Thanks!

Re putting the top down. I haven't put the top down since installing the rack.. Probably wont until this Summer, if then. I've only had the top down once since since I bought it in 07.

I have had my top down all weekend. I compared the location of my lowered top to your pics of the rack in place. There is absolutely no way the factory 4-door soft top could be lowered properly with this rack in place. That's very unfortunate, as it's an awesome looking rack. I drop my top probably 20 times a year, so this rack just won't work for me.

Now, if there is some way to mount the rack so the top of the rack is level with the top of the tailgate. That would work perfect.

Anyway, thanks for the pics. They saved me the money of buying this rack that I wanted just to find out I couldn't use it.
