Tow rigs and Trailer Queens
I have tried several searches here but could not find any threads on this forum related to trailering your Jeep. I thought it would be a good idea to start one here for people to look into when considering buying a trailer, strapping it down and generally trailering your JK.
Last couple years I knew the Jeep was getting to a point where it was a pain to drive it any more than 4 hours, plus we usually had a lot of gear as well. Spring of 2015 I scored an awesome deal on a new 2014 F150 XLT 5.0L trading in my Focus.
Beginning of summer after a lot of research I bought a new 2015 Wood deck, 18' dove tail car hauler with 3500# axles, dual axle brakes and slide out side ramps.
With the 5.0L and the weight distribution hitch this setup rides perfectly and I get usually 11-14mpg. I also bought Mac's tie down strapa that comes with the 4 long axle straps (wheel straps) and 4 8' ratchet straps. Because I can't fit the end hooks through the side stakes on the trailer I bought tie downs and through-bolted them through the steel cross member with grade 8 hardware.
I believe the trailer is 83" between the wells and I have just enough room to squeeze 3.5 backspacing and 37's.
2015 was an expensive year, but now I can safely tow with my truck and trailer with piece of mind. The maiden voyage was a 7.5 hour drive to Topless for Tatas.

After hating two PJ Buggy Haulers I bought a Load Trail and have been very happy. The owners of the two companies are brothers, but Load Trail has kept all of their production in Texas while PJ is manufacturing all of there smaller trailers in Mexico. The powder coat and wiring are better on this trailer and it pulls MUCH smoother than my two PJs did. They were both 20 x 102s but one had a dove tail and the other was straight deck like what I have now.
The trailer is a 20' x 102" straight deck with 5200# axles. I added an adjustable coupler, tongue mounted tool box, and a winch plate on the front.
My tow rig is a 2016 Ram 2500 CTD. Its on a 3" Pure Performance X-Factor Stage 3 with 37" Toyo RTs on 20" Trail Ready wheels.
This is one of my previous PJs that had the dove tail. It made loading without ramps easier, but it drug everywhere.
