What all are you going to haul on that rack? If its a kayak or canoe I would say front and rear tie downs are necessary. If it works for you great, I wouldnt put anything heavy or blocky up there.

For me the Rhino Rack Back Bone was worth the price.

While the wife is out of town, played with the Willys . She wanted a winch mounted up front so -

installed stubby OEM bumper with Hard Rock winch plate
mounted a waterproof 10K synthetic rope winch (Smittybilt)
installed Rough Country skid plates
replaced stock headlights and fog lights with LED lights (those darn things were bright enough to adjust in broad daylight)

Do know, I'm not a wrench by any stretch of the imagination. I had acquired all this stuff figuring to pay for the installation. But with the queen gone, thought I'd give it a shot. Not too shabby for an old guy still in physical therapy for a shoulder replacement . . .

I can't speak to the integrity of the rain gutters, but I've seen others do it and not had any issues. Of course, you can't load up a 2-bar roof rack like you could something like a rhino rack, but it's a good way to load up a couple of snowboards, or even a kayak/canoe. I personally modified an old XJ roof rack to fit centered on the rails of the HT and added a Yakima LoadWarrior to it.

Here are some pics of some other guys loading up their roof racks:

Here's a pic of mine carrying a couple of snowboards this past winter:

Replaced my spark plugs, man what a PITA it is. Here's what 91k miles looks like on spark plugs, Next on the list is to replace pesky oil pump which is causing code P06DD to be triggered.
