2015 Rubicon with auto and 4.10 gears...feedback needed
 

Looking at ordering a hard rock unlimited with the auto and 4.10 gears. Currently have a 2009 with the 3.73 gears that is used to tow an aluminum fishing boat every now and then. When it does tow on any grade it is going in/out of overdrive.

Have only test drove the 3.73 version hard rock and it has more get up and go but was wondering if anyone has towed say 2K pounds and can provide any feedback? If you have the auto with the 4.10 gears would like to know what you think.

Don't know why anyone would want a Rubicon, straight stick or auto, that did not have 4.10 gears. That's the only way to go. It will pull that boat, 4 wheel and go up and down hilly roads way much better than the 3.73s. I've had them both and you will not see a noticeable difference in gas mileage.

I am an outlier on here. I tow a toyhauler, sometimes weighing 5,000 pounds with my 2012 JKU with 3.73 and manual trans. 2k would be a piece of cake, though I highly recommend electric brakes on the trailer and a weight distribution hitch. Here is a pic of what I tow. I got 5-6k miles of towing over the last 3 yrs. this is in NJ, PA, VA, and NC. Not in crazy mountains like Colorado. I upgraded my bumper to smittybilt XRC which increases the receiver rating to 5k pounds. I would also vote for 4.1 gearing. Manual more likely to use 6th gear and auto may hunt less.

I have a 14 Rubicon X, 4.10 Auto. Previously had an 08 Unlimited 6SP, 3.73. Towing a 2k grill or a motorcycle trailer is much easier with the 4.10/3.6 combo. No hunting for gears, admittedly in flat Florida.

I have a 2015 JKUR 5 speed auto with 4:10's, still running it pure stock. Has plenty of pulling power, easily hauls my 18' fishing boat (fiberglass). Commuting to work, after 20 tanks of fuel I'm averaging 17.5 mpg going 70 mph. Never has to downshift going up hills. Off road it is a pleasure to drive, gearing is everything. With that said, in the future I may go up to 33" or 35" tires, gearing will change then but from what I have read that is still an acceptable set up. Good luck, you"ll love the new JK Rubi.
