I guess im beginning to mis understand this whole diesel thing.. in my neck of the woods, regular is $3.30 a gallon, diesel is $4.19 thats more than 25% different and it doesnt seem like you gain that much in fuel economy... surely you do gain in the abiity to have lots of low end torque which our 3.8's lack.. but really I easily get 22 on the highway running 65 in my 4 door with 3.23's and a stick shift...

My co-worker's gas powered 2001 VW Golf manual 5 speed = 32mpg Highway.
My diesel powered 2001 VW Golf manual 5 speed = 55mpg highway.
For some reason, diesels in truck-like vehicles don't do much better in the mileage department compared to their gas powered siblings. Any ideas as to why?

I'm Italian and i have a Jeep Wrangler Jk 2dr 2.8L Crd.
The Crd have 177 Cv and is a great motor!!
This is the list in Italy in order to buy one JK:
i pay my JK 35.000 Euro ( $49.000 ) (Hard top, Power convenience, Fap, 6cd DVD Stereo infinity)
http://www.jeep-official.it/wrangler...df/listino.pdf
The problem is the consumption
13.5 liter for 100 km
In Italy the diesel cost 1.335 €/liter

Those 3.0CRDs are really quiet. My dad's cousin has a grand cherokee with it and they're really not any noisier than a regular gas engine. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy and has comparable performance to the 5.7L hemi.

I'd be in for the Nitro RT engine too, maybe just enough extra hp to make 35's roll nice! Diesel is more than unleaded fuel here now.
4.0L SOHC V6 engine that pumps out 260 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque

Really? That's pretty cool if so, would like to see a dyno benchmark of both, you'd have to pick a HEMI though, isn't there like 3 models of the HEMI engine?

The 3.0-liter V6 CRD engine produces 215 horsepower at 3,800 rpm and 376 pounds-feet of torque at 1,600 - 2,800 rpm
The torque of the diesel would help the JK out of the hole, granted a Hemi is gonna win if it can stretch its legs. A dyno would be interesting but diesels lend themselves better to what a jeep needs in real life, low end grunt.
