ADVICE: Top and Door Removal
Getting ready to take the top and doors off for the first time and was wondering if there is anything I should essentially be aware of? Products to buy, things to keep in mind? I don't want to chip any paint or compromise any sealants. Thanks!!

Buy some sort of side mirrors. A hat tether ;)
|
When you unhook the door be very careful because your mirror can swing around and dent your cowl. Many many many dented cowls out there.
|
Take a shot....relax. Something will chip eventually.

Not sure how you will store your doors when off, but I keep mine leaned up against the garage wall. I put some rubber door edge guard on the bottom edge of my doors to protect from scratches and scuffs.

I have some of the foam flooring tiles similar to the kind in gyms or the ones kids play on. I set my doors on that stuff to protect the bottom edge. Think I bought the set at Lowes.
A set of mirrors is also a good investment. Not like you need them as much with the doors off but they keep you legal depending on your state. I have the rugged ridge quick release and like them. As for the top don't assume you can do it yourself. It's not that it's incredibly heavy but it is awkward. Get a neighbor or a top hoist. I had the wife help until I got my hoist. Last bit of advise is throw a few large trash bags in the glove box. Works to cover electronics or a poncho in a pinch. Lastly and most importantly enjoy the ride! |
I use foam pool "noodles" with a slit cut longways to pad the bottom of the doors when they are resting on the floor. Also if you have power windows, roll them down before disconnecting the wiring harness.

Disconnect wire harness THEN take doors off--made that mistake once.. Doh!!
