When I was 16, I would have killed for a '80 Trans Am. I settled for a '72 4 door Chevy Impala from my grandpa (smelled like pipe smoke). Then it got a '70 VW Beetle that I fixed up (faster than the Impala, handled really well). Later I bought a '81 Datson 280ZX Turbo with a killer lowered suspension (and t-tops yeah!) in Newport CA. When it was tuned hot, it was fast for the time (faster than some Ferraris) . Moved from there to a new '91 Trooper. Even though it wasn't a 'Jeep', I was totally hooked.
4x4s = adventure, fun
sports cars (especially old, automatic ones) = never enough, peer pressure, one mistake away from speeding into a cement wall
Besides, in SoCal, there are a million of those Supras. People don't really think "Holy Shit, a Supra". Instead, it's just another tuner kid car with a coffee can muffler that sounds like a farting chain saw. Oh, I drove the Datson from SoCal to Chicago for a summer construction job on the Dan Ryan expressway. As soon as I passed from Iowa into Illinois, the pot holes ruined my lowered Datsun. Those Japanese sports cars can't handle Illinois roads. That's why they are more rare there. I learned the hard way in the Datsun.
Go Jeep.

Ok. Going back to the poster who said get a job and work for it so you appreciate it. You're lucky you're not getting your grandpa's 10 year old Impala (actually, the '95s were kinda cool - make it a minvan)!! Just wait until you have to start buying you own stuff...
I have nieces and a nephew that have no respect for what they get. They get iPods, Wii systems, ATVs, dirtbikes, etc. and just break them. Don't be like them. Just remember the time your father had to stay at work to earn the money to pay for it the TJ. Besides...
TJ's are awesome!
Once you get it, hopefully he'll make you work to earn money to pay for all the upgrades. That way you'll feel his pain (and mine as I wish I had more money to put goodies on mine) and build some character of you own.
Good luck and congratulations. Remember, you're still part of the Jeep family wether it's a JK or a TJ.

if you were paying for it you would know what you were getting and you would get what you wanted -- you will be happy with whatever you get, TJs are cool, at 16 i think i would have literally killed someone for a Jeep, any Jeep -- anyway i just have to say that this is a JEEP forum and you have turned this thread into a YOU forum which i would imagine from your tone that is how your life works and what you expect --- i wanna flame ya but your a kid so i'm being nice like everyone else on here -- good luck with whatever you get
^no, i am paying for it. my parents made me get a joob to pay for a car that i HAD a choice in, but then they diddnt like any except for the jeeep. well we will find out on friday or saturday. but i found a white x thats cheap and nice
