Another towing question

I have 2009 unlimited sport or with a 6 speed and 3.73 gears. I am wondering which I will be able to tow my 18' aluminum boat?

Why is the 2 door JK only able to tow 2000lbs? It has enough power?

Yes it will tow 2000lbs with no problem. I think that's the load limit for 2 doors.

towing is not always one dimensional, you may be able to get the weight moving, but the vehicle must be rated for handling, turning, and stopping the load. The shorter wheelbase makes the JK a more unstable tow vehicle than the JKU due to it's shorter wheelbase even though it may have the same gearing and motor. in fact the JKU even weighs more, so it should tow less, but the rating is not based on the motor alone. Wheel base, gearing, and vehicle weight play into the equation. which is why the longer wheel base and heavier jku has a higher tow rating. the 2 dr will get pushed around by a heavy tow load that is bigger in size and weight.

Have towed with a tj and just towed a u haul trailer 400 miles with my 13'( I know different engine). An 18 foot aluminum boat isn't that heavy. And just do a search on this forum and this is a common question here. There are probably 1000 pics of ppl towing bigger with their 3.8

We towed a 6x12 uhaul from Louisiana to DC loaded down pretty good with a 2008 JKU and it towed without a problem.

I pull a 6x12 utility trailer with 4 or 5 sit on top kayaks or a small Kubota tractor. I does it with no problem. I hauled a skid steer backhoe attachment once and it really pushed when stopping. It was right around 3700 with the trailer. 2010 JKU auto 3.73 with 33's

i tow my jetski (maybe 1400lbs with trailer) behind my two door and have no issues.
