The second point that Chip made was that we need 165 different gasoline cocktails based on local and federal policy. This adds inefficiencies which results in time and money to the costs of your gasoline.

But I am sure as you run your business costs are not passed on to the consumer. That you would not run your business to create a profit. The main point is that local and state government undeniably put restrictions on the production of gas that has added a much higher cost with no detectable benefit!
No different, other than oil/gas prices are directly tied to the cost of living and practically every product made and delivered around the globe ... as someone graciously said, who's camel farted?

The different blends are tied to many variables... why doesn't every state simply adopt California EPA and AQMD standards?

If you did, then we can all drink the same Kool Aid... or Milk Shake.

Yeah, the last time gas prices reached record highs in 2008 I used the gas buddy ... a lot of good data on that site.

Every state? What about different blends for different counties? Waiting 4 days without gas while 25 miles away(different county) has all the gas they want since it is a different blend from a different refinery. Talk about stupid!

Never said there would be no variation in prices, just stated without the bogus governmental regs gas would be cheaper. $1 to $2 cheaper per gallon!

In my area(nor cal) crude has gone up 10% in the last 3 weeks while gas prices have gone up slightly more than 13%. Yea raking us over the coals.

Nor Cal? ... as in San Ramon? If so, I guess you and I are preaching to the choir.

I think we're on the same page. I work for a highly regulated medical device company and Fed agencies can either be your best ally or worst nightmare. You don't want to piss off the folks in the District of Columbia.

Now, if you're my cousin JC I'm going to have a really good laugh over this banter.

I have a lot of family up there .... wish I could move up north, maybe after I retire in a few years.

My cousin and his wife works in San Ramon, Chevron. He's been all over the world... needless to say, I buy the family brand.

I have actually held off on getting a new JKU. If gas reaches $5.00 a gallon I really don't think I could swing it, factory... Never mind with mods. JKU w/ 4:10s and 35s even w/ a 2012 will be a gas hog.

I have actually been looking at $5,000. Beaters that are good on gas. If $5.00 gallon hits, I think there will be a huge drop in SUV sales like a few years back.

It might be worth it to wait it out for a bit and see where this goes. If it hits $6.00 a gallon, there will be no need to own a vehicle because we will all be drafted for World War 3: The Arab campaign. I hope I'm wrong.

The guy who wrote what I posted owns a Chevron station in Maricopa County AZ, and had owned a new car dealership is Scottsdale for 20 years. When he wrote it was cut and pasted on to several forums(like I did here) it ended up being posted by the execs at Chevron to let their employees know exactly what they were dealing with as far as the troubles of everyone wanting their own blend. It also made its way to radio with rush reading a good portion of that piece on air.

Regardless many people have no clue what the oil companies deal with day in a day out. And like Chip posted very few people have any idea of basic economics. Have a good day sir!
