Default Best Tire/wheel combo?

Decided not to trade in Sweet-pea for the unlimited, so I'm gonna do some upgrades. I need a descent tire/wheel combo...I currently have the standard 16" wheel with some no-name all-terrains. I'm looking for a great combo for sand, mud, and about 60 miles of highway a day. $2000-2,300 budget.

I have two sets of wheels for my 2008 JKU Rubicon.

I just replaced the stock BFG Mud Terrain tires that came on my 17" rims with Cooper Discoverer ST/Maxx. I run these in the winter.

I bought a set of Sahara rims/tires for $400 from a guy on Craigslist to run in Summer. I hate raised white letters on the tires so I reversed the tires with black wall facing out .

Sounds like a more aggressive AT may be what you're looking for. Take a look at Duratracs or Coopers ST Maxx, to name a couple, both get great reviews. As far as wheels, that's totally your choice and what you like. Black, chrome (hopefully not), steel, alloy...too many choices to recommend the "best wheel". Good luck.

Have heard a lot of good reviews on these fierce tires. Very close to a wrangler duratrac also lots of reviews stating individuals getting 50,000 miles out of them

I've always run two sets of wheels/tires. MTR's for the trails and BFG A/T for the street. This year I changed my street setup from 33" BFG AT to 35" Duratracs. So far I must say that I love the Duratracs. We've had two major snow storms, one 30" worth, and they were terrific! Plus, they look very aggressive.

But as said above, it sounds like you will do well with a good A/T like the Duratracs.

I've read good things about the Coopers too. I am currently looking for 37"x 17 and may try the Cooper STT Pro.

Edit: I should add that the reason why I went with the duratracs is because a friend of mine who I wheel with uses them. He uses them off road and on and I've seen them work quite well off road as well. They are very smooth and quiet on the road and balanced pretty easily. My MTR are so loud on road now as they have worn down a little, that they are almost unbearable otherwise I'd run them full-time.

I just picked up a set of Sahara wheels and and tires, i'll run the tires for a while and probably put on a set of duratracs. I think this will be a sweet combination. 1.5 inch spacers just makes for a good look.
