Default Bestop Bikini Top - Solid or Mesh

Was wondering if anyone has the Bestop Mesh Bikini top? On my other 2 Wranglers I had the solid top, was wondering how the mesh top compares? The mesh is less expensive but wanted to hear some feedback from members who actually have the mesh top. I have a birthday comming soon and I always get my wife to buy me accessories

I thought about the mesh top, but went with the solid. The mesh top seemed pretty light weight and didn't look like it would offer much protection. It was like going to the garden center at Home Depot.

I try to go topless as often as possible, the only reason I have a top at all is to protect the wife and kid from the sun, so the solid top was my best choice.

I mainly want to protect from the sun but kinda like the idea of still having the open air feel. I keep my soft top pushed back so it will be ready quickly.
Hey, maybe i should get both.

I had the mesh top and absolutely loved it. Offered excellent protection and looked good. I had it on the whole time when I went to MOAB for 5 days and didn't get sun burned at all.

Just my .02

The only reason I got the solid one was because of the chance of rain getting through. I would rather have that up there than having to try to get the full top up in the rain. I would be fine but with kids needed something that will protect from rain. Even with the doors off it does a good job of keeping them dry.

I am thinking about selling my Bestop Safari top and Header. The problem with having that and the soft top is that unlike my CJ, it takes time to take the whole Safari top off and Header when you want to have an open top Jeep. It's almost easier to just have the softop and use it with no windows

I love the mesh, blocks enough sun so that it is not as hot, and still lets the breeze thru. When I want more protection
I just put the soft top up without the sides and rear, does the same as the solid Bikini/Safari

If you are only worried about shade get the mesh. Getting both and changing them out would be a bigger PIA than it was worth. Now if you got two headers.....

I have the solid version, I considered the mesh but the wife wanted complete protection from the sun and rain. I only ever use the bikini top on weekends when we go out wheeling, during the week I pop it off and throw on a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes and enjoy the openness.
