Carrying Kayaks?

Carrying Kayaks?
Hi, I am getting ready to purchase a JK (yay). I want to be able to carry two 10 foot sit on top kayaks on top. I assume I will need a free standing roof rack. Does it matter if I get soft or hard top? What about two or four door? Do you think two door would be long enough? I would consider both but I need to be able to tow behind my RV and it has a 5000lb limit.
Thanks!
Thanks!

2dr jk here with a Barricade roof rack (albeit the cheaper ones are all the same) and it will absolutely hold 2 sit upons on top, length isn't an issue. The issue with the cheaper racks is that you've got to continually tighten hardware or maybe go with loctite instead of the cheesy nylocks they supply. I put 600 highway miles on it and didn't have any issues, just a wind buffet noise (not an issue with your RV).

If you get a JKU (4 door) you can only tow 3500 pounds really, and a 2 door JK is 2000 pounds. Unless that's changed with 2018 models. With my 2010 with 35's and a gobi rack, I wouldn't even tow 3500 pounds. Sure you can physically tow more than that, but that's all on you if you do.
For the Kayak's though, I've been running a Gobi roof rack for 7 years now and I'ts been great. I get loads of compliments on it and it works pretty well with my soft top.

If a bought a new jeep and wanted a rack, I would buy theirs again.
If you need to tow 5000+ pounds get a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Toyota Tacoma.

With the barricade you've got to pull the very front bar (two knobs) to open the sunrider. If you've got a hard top then you may have to do the same. I cannot speak for the Gobi.
