If you don't have a locker in your front diff, you've got to disconnect your front swaybar while off-roading.

I had no idea how much better my jeep would wheel with the swaybar disonnected.

I bought a pair of JKS quick disconnects. Before disconnecting I went over to this steep dirt road that had alternating holes in it. I tried 5 times to crawl up this road in 4 wheel drive without my rear locker engaged. Every time my wheels would spin out. It was actually a little embarasing that my Jeep would not climp up this hill.

I backed up, disconnected my front sway bar, put it in 4x4 low, 1st gear, no locker & wha-laaa. I crawled right up it. No lie.

Just make sure your brake lines & esp wires are long enough to articulate.

Agree 100%! My nearly stock Sahara can do some pretty tough routes when I disconnect the front!

That road has the same alternating holes I'm talkin about.
Bottom picture looks like your driveshaft boot rubbed your automatic tranny. Seems like if you disconnect with an auto you need an aftermarket, skinnier driveshaft.

You would want to have sway bar disconnects regardless of not having a locker IMO. It makes a big difference in your ability to flex and gain traction over bumpy trails.

Default Newbie question

Seems like if you disconnect with an auto you need an aftermarket, skinnier driveshaft.
Can someone please spell this out for a non-technical guy? Because you're getting me worried.

Is that driveshaft damaged now or just the rubber boot?
I read on this forum that a different driveshaft is only necessary if you have more than 2.5 inches of lift, is that correct?

Just make sure your brake lines & esp wires are long enough to articulate.
I assume this is also only true for 'bigger' lifts?

Ya, i'd say a lift that has 2.5" with an auto transmission and disconnecting will cause a front drive shaft problem.
