I know it's more of a full size pickup platform, but I always had a soft spot for K5 Blazers and Jimmys.

I had a lot of fun with the K5 Blazer/Jimmys, had a 81, 79, and a 77 pickup conversion.

I have not ever seen one that was not either highly modified/gutted/destroyed/abused or in need of major restorative repair for those prices. Considering this is very close to the original sale price of many of these vehicles when new, I'd say that's pretty expensive.

If I can find one in usable ORIGINAL condition (original engine, transmission, wheels, tires, suspension, etc.) that needs only cosmetic refreshing for $2K I'll be highly tempted to buy it. We seem now to call late-80s vehicles "classics" so sellers think a Sammy like this is worth $6K, and one with a Sidekick engine, 33" tires, Joe-Bob's "lift kit", no interior besides dune buggy seats and not even a faint memory of the original top is seen as "upgraded" and the seller wants $4K for it. Well needless to say I'm not a Suzuki collector (although I do own a 25 year old Suzuki ... it's a motorcycle) so I have no interest in paying these kind of prices for one. If I have $6K to spend on a 1500 lb off-road toy why not buy a dedicated side-by-side?

An old Defender 90 would be nice to have.

I have a soft spot for vintage Japanese hardware myself. Maybe all those bad Ninja movies as a kid has the name Samurai in my head. That Defender 90 as well, talk about getting expensive these days!

Default Memories

Wanted a Samurai back in the day but when I test drove a new one and it topped out about 70mph I changed my mind. Worked in the Ford plant in the '70s and built pickups and the original Broncos. They were antiquated then and were rust buckets. Lotsa F-150s in the parking lot but no Broncos. Land Rovers? Cool but Cha-ching! Speaking of bizarre Japanese rigs, remember the Brat?

Who could forget the Brat. Seats with video game bike like handles in the back bed. What could go wrong? I gladly take one and can think of a few people to put in the back while I hit the turns!

The last " Jeep -like" vehicle was the Samurai in the late 80's, early 90's.
At least in the USA. I bought a new one for $8500. That was a Bare Bones one, great little vehicle, wish I still had it.
There are NO Jeep-like vehicles -removable top, doors, by design . Capable, and endlessly Modifiable. Good on and off road.
Jeep still is the Only One. I would like to see competition, its good for the Consumer, but there is nothing in the USA market yet.
