Default Duratrac on JKU Sport?

Forgive if the answer to this is obvious, with so many tire threads I've found both helpful and confusing info.

I have a 2013 JKU Sport complete with awful stock 16' steelies and awful tires. I am looking into Duratracs but am not too sure what ones to get.

What is the biggest size I can put on the 16's without A) rubbing and B) looking dumb? Pathetic Jeep is a DD so I don't want a lift, etc.

Would I have more options if I bought 17's ? All the pictures I've seen of Duratracs on stock 16's look a bit funny. Any thoughts? Thanks all...

I can't answer your question about what size to get. However, I highly recommend you search craigslist for rubicon take-off wheels. Most times you can find a set of 5, low mileage take offs for around $800. Then, use those until they are toast, then get the duratracs a few years later on your 17" rims. That is exactly what I did. You can sell your steelies to help offset the cost.

I was thinking of doing that but was told how poorly the mud terrains are in snow...maybe I can suck it up for a few years...

I'm in NJ. Got hit pretty hard with snow last year. I had the Goodrich MT tires. No issues with snow. Actually, was a bit disappointed in that I barely even needed to put it in 4wd. Once I found a giant gravel parking lot with 8" of untouched snow (Wall Stadium). I was the only vehicle to hit the lot. Again, didn't even need 4wd. Where the MT tires are weak in my experience is with wet traction, particularly when they reached about 2.5 yrs old. Hitting traffic circles at relatively high speed and the jeep would slide some. I recently replaced my MT's at about 53,000 miles and am happy with the Duratracs.

Since the Duratracs run a tad small, you should be able to run 33s (LT285/75R16) no problem. If you put wheel spacers on, that would make certain there was no rubbing and really improve the stance and the look. For the "official" answer (which is a bit narrower tire), you should check out the FAQ. The link to tires is broken, but just scroll down to find it ...

You might also look at Cooper ST Max tires. They are a great alternative to the duratrac, with a stronger side wall. They are are VERY similar in tread design, and cost $$$$$$ cheaper. My buddy that I wheel with has them on his JKU and they pulled great on the trail.

This is a pic of my buddies JKU with those tires I mentioned in a 33. My jeep is behind him. They are a nice tire and I don't think he paid but like 975 for 5 of them, installed.

my duratracs are the OEM 32" size for the 17" rims. I only got four tires. They were $605 delivered plus $70 install. So, only 675 for 4 new tires. Simpletire.com.

I ran 16" Duratracs on the stock suspension for a while. I've got the tires for sale currently if you're interested.

Aren't they a different load class? They look a bit more narrow than the Duratracs, no?
