Empty oil filter
Yesterday I changed my oil. It had been down a bit and it was pretty dirty. So as I'm going about things everything was normal. After letting my oil pan drain out I proceed to remove and change my filter (k&n) and to my surprise it was empty? Usually when I remove the oil filter it leaks all over the place and when I drain the filter there is a fair amount in it, this time almost nothing, maybe 1/2 teaspoon. Is this of any concern? Or just a bad filter perhaps? I've never seen this before.

It shouldn't make a too much a difference I would think but how long has the jeep been sitting before the change.... A day or more?

It had only been sitting about 1 - 1 1/2 hours before I changed the oil. The oil was still pretty warm.

I was down probably over a quart. I wasn't checking my levels to often although I will now. Do you think the filter had a bad anti drain back valve or something? Or maybe the pump isn't working and oil wasn't flowing properly? I would think that would throw a code though? I just thought it was strange.

Ok was thinking that by some odd far out reason if it was sitting for a while maybe it just drained out but I guess since it was only an hour I guess that's out..... So what happened with the new filter? U did put a new filter on fill the oil and start it right? If not do that and then remove the new filter.
(just my opinion-get rid of the K&N and buy a Fram filter)
I highly doubt that u have a bad oil pump or anything like that. Ur oil light would have come on because u would have had no oil pressure, I honestly think this is one of those freak of nature one time things. I've had a few Wierd things happen to me on a few vehicles that seemed impossible but nothing ever happened more than once. Like in said above I'd just remove the new filter and if there is no oil in that one, then I'd be worried, and get it to the dealer.

Yeah got to keep an eye on those oil levels. I am a bit OCD and check mine with every gas fill-up.
I am going to guess and say you probably have a weak anti-drainback valve in the filter.
I have had really good luck with WIX filters over the years.
