Gas tank overflow issue

I recently bought a used 2007 wrangler sahara from a ford dealership. Everytime I fill the tank it spits a bunch of gas back out down the side of the car.

I searched the issue and saw some things about Chrysler replacing the tanks. Being that I bought mine used from ford, would Chrysler still honor the fuel tank replacement?

Has anyone had a similar issue that was resolved?

Thanks,
Nick

Pretty sure that was a voluntary recall so if it wasn't done, check with your local dealership, have them run the VIN and see if you qualify.

Having the dealer look for a recall will not be productive. There was no recall for the fuel spit-back issue.

There is a warranty extension for the issue, though. It is lifetime, with no limit on time, miles, or ownership.
It involves replacement of the tank's filler tube, not the entire tank.

Have the dealer see if the warranty extension applies to your JK. If it doesn't, the fix is not expensive, and is easy to do yourself.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Guess I'll be stopping at the dealer tomorrow after work.

Good news. Took it to the dealer, and within five minutes I was out the door and the part had been ordered no questions asked.

You don't happen to have a link to a fix write-up?

I've been reading about people having this issue for quite awhile on this forum, mostly on 07's and 08's and that's what I heard the warranty extension was offered on. I was hoping it was fixed on my 2009. I've had my 2009 for 4 years, and just started having this problem about 2 months ago.:naw:

gas everywhere

Thank you for the thread. I have a 2007, also.
I am tired of having to tell the gas attendants to sprinkle fairy dust on my spills.
The only advice I had gotten from others was 'push the nozzle in as far as it will go'- doesn't work.
Will check with a dealer...

I also have this issue on my '07, but I find it's not a problem if I let off of the nozzle pressure a bit once I get close to being full.

I got a recall letter on my 07
