GPS mounting location

In California we can only mount or GPS units in the lower corners of the windshield. Otherwise you're subject to a citation. I don't like the corners because that means a sloppy cable strung across somewhere. And those little tweeters are in the way too. All the surfaces in my 2011 JK are textured... How and where are other folks mounting their GPS units?

Instead of the windshield, try a piece of flat plastic and using industrial grade double sided adhesive tape, stick it where you want on your dash and apply the windshield mount to that. You just need a surface the suction cup mount can adhere to.

I had the same issue with the wire running all willy-nilly
over the dash... then a friend cam over and showed me
how the whole dash comes apart on my 2012 JKU.

There is 1 screw under the dash directly below the steering
skirt. The rest pulls right off. After removing the screw, start
on the far left side,(driver's side) and pull each section off.
The hardest part was snaking the charging cord back out to
the 12v port. given some time I would have figured out how
to hard wire the cord behind the dash.

hope this helps.
Sorry I don't have any pics at this time.
Next time i rip it open, I'll be sure to post
a how-to...on this subject.

I ordered some RAM ball and socket mounting parts from Amazon and used the mounting screw in the top tray to secure it. Works great! Easy to remove and just run the cable in the area between the dash and windshield. Dont have pics available, but they are posted on another site.
