Grille Guard-What is the purpose?
 

I am thinking of getting a Warn front bumper and winch and was wondering what is the purpose of the grille guard? The simple answer of course is to protect the grille. But, protect the grille from what?

Protect your front end, most importantly your radiator from rocks, tree branches, etc depending on what type of wheeling you do. They can also be a convenient place for a couple lights.

Protects your Jeep from the people in the crosswalk.

Where I live it also helps keep deer out of radiator

Originally know as cattle guards.

Radiator from animals.

They make a good place for hot chicks to hang off of for pics.

Squirrels? Every time I've seen a GOOD deer/moose/elk hit, the "grill gaurd" has always been bent and punched through the grille and straight into the radiator, along with fur, animal parts, and poop. It's always made me question their worth, other than a really heavy perch for aftermarket lights...

On the flip side, they look good on some vehicles, but I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

The grill guard can also protect your winch, especially if it sits on top of your bumper.
