No rail car number I'm afraid. I didn't ask. Frankly I don't believe the "It's still sitting in the rail yard." line of shit anyway. It's like you said, those cars don't sit around empty or loaded with product for days and days. That's just common sense. Rail cars that are sitting around loaded or unloaded and not transporting freight aren't making the rail company any money. Not to mention the yards would be overwhelmed with cargo in just a couple days. I know they're full of it.

We are only an hour and a half ride from Nashville. It's doesn't take over a week to get up there, get your product and get it back to your dealership. I think I'm going to take some advice from Utahgoose and have a little chat with Chrysler about these folks.

The domestic auto dealers really wonder why the Japanesse are kicking their ass. I can go just test drive a Honda and find a thank you card in my mail box for it a couple days later. These American dealers can't even be bothered to talk to you unless you want to spend 100 grand or something.

I guess i'm lucky. I checked my local dealer's inventory online (they had about 30 JK's on the lot), found the one i wanted, drove down the next day and bought it.

I don't mean to sound dumb, but are these JK's REALLY that hard to find? Here in NJ, they're on every lot...

While others are impatient, I'm picky. I wanted Det Yellow, 4 drs (kids, ya know), MyGig, Rubicon, Dual Tops, auto, side air bags. I took every option except the smokers group (and now I'm wondering about that decision even though nobody I know smokes). Guess how many of these are sitting around?

Dealer: "Oh, we've got one in red! But without the MyGig."
Me: {stare}
D: "Hey, there's a black one with a manual 10 miles away!"
ME: {stare}
D: "Uh, how about blue? It's only 100 mi..."
D: "...okay, let's order one."

i feel very lucky, we stopped on our way to eat Italian just to look at the new JKs and found the one i wanted right there and bought it within an hour then drove it to the restaraunt and that was 9 months ago, i can't imagine waiting that long for a vehicle -- my wife wants one now and since she wants all the goodies ( i wanted stripped 4x4 6spd softtop)she was told 6-8 months -- i think Jeep lost a customer when she heard that

And you are supprised about this?

Never talk to these people without using the words "Lets get this on paper" because if it isn't written down they don't believe it happened.

There are some good dealers/sales people, but for every good one there are 100's that don't have a clue and never will.

This has been true forever.

I would not pick on the dealer too much. They are at the mercy of the computer system. When checking my wifes build, Which I did often calling the 800 number, The status went from being built to about to be built. Then I got a build date (takes 40 hrs to build) 2 days later it was QA'd and waiting to ship. Gave an estimated delivery date. Then it was in build status again???
We were out driving on the estimated delivery date and saw 3 carriers full of JK's going away from the dealership...Ohhhh excitement! Went to the dealer and no jeep. Next day I get a call that computer says it was delivered. Dealer cant find it! Finally my internet/fleet sales manager says she will do some checking and the next day it is on a truck waiting for delivery but... Fires in southern Ca are blocking the hiway. Get to wait another 5 days before its actually delivered.
BTW Theres another procedure that you can take your VIN and find out through the train people what car it is on and track that rail car. I think I still have the details!

Right, there in lies the problem. The dealer says that their computer is showing the Jeep is at the Rail Yard. The Chrysler folks say their computer shows it was being painted at that time, and it's just now been shipped to storage.

Somebody's computer, or somebody, is lying.

No, I'm not. I've come to the conclusion that car dealers just flat out suck, it doesn't matter where you go. Unless you're buying a Bently, a Rolls or a Ferrari you're going to get treated like crap. lol

It's a complete PITA. I hate the process of buying vehicles. Most of the dealers that I've been to are so wrapped up in their own little talk that they don't pay attention to the customer. When you think about it, for the average American, their vehicles are among the 5 biggest purchases that they make in a several year period. Other than a house, there isn't much that we spend more money on. Funny thing is that Real Estate agents are beating down peoples doors just to hand them a tissue when they sneeze, when most dealers that I've worked with wouldn't take the time to say "Bless you."
Even the cheapest car you can get in America, a Chevy Aveo, is over a $10,000 purchase. That's a BIG DEAL for a lot of people. It's not like buying a freezer pizza at the grocery store, and the stores clerks are actually, sometimes, FRIENDLY!
All I know is that I vote with my dollars. I won't buy a car froma schmuck. It only reinforces their behavior. There are good dealers out there, unfortunately you just have to search for them.
Don't give up hope, this will all be a distant memory once you're driving around, roofless, in your new Jeep. Don't forget to post pics when it gets here, and let us know what Chrysler says when you call/write them.
