Help! My 2012 JKU has gone haywire!
Sorry for the long post, but I think I need to tell the full story.
My 2012 Jeep Sahara Unlimited began having intermittent starting issue about a year ago. I thought it was heat related because it would start up fine in the morning or after work, but if it had been run then shut off it would not crank again for an hour or more. Key would turn all the way over and nothing not even a click. Then after a while it would start fine.
I never could find a definitive answer for what was wrong until I was talking with a guy I worked with who said he had the same problem on his 2007 JKU. He said he sent his PCM to a company that deleted the SKIM code and that solved his problem permanently. I sent my PCM in to the same place but was told once they received it that my model year was too new and they couldn’t do it and would be returning it unchanged.
I reinstalled the PCM, reconnected the SKIM module, and then the battery. When I went to start the vehicle it struggled to start. Turning over for a few seconds before starting. The idle is now extremely rough sounding as though it will shut off any second. Every light on the dash was on and flashing. The cabin vent fan was turned off at the knob, but was cutting on and off randomly and cycling through different speeds. Finally, the vent fan began flooding the cabin with fumes that smelled extremely rich like sulphur or spent gunpowder.
I was under the impression that the SKIM removal company didn’t do anything to the PCM but now I’m not sure.
