One thing to always remember when dealing wiht warranty issues:

We are regulated by the factory on how a repair should be done. In cases where it is not your normal claim this means submitting the claim to the factory and finding out what they want done. It may even go as far as them taking pictures and sending them in.

If the dealer can do something on the spot to get it handled then they will, but they usually know when they need to wait for a reply from the factory on how the factory will allow them to proceed.

If the dealer does not do it in accordance with the factory process of fixing the problem then it comes out of the dealers pocket.

Of course there are also dealers out there that just suck...

My Jeep is two weeks old and also has the white tape over the seems of the soft top. It's raining here and NY and they feel damp, but are not leaking.

Don-A-Vee, thanks for the help.

Exactly the same with mine. 2 weeks old, has the tape , feels damp but not leaking. Although it doesn't look as damp as those in the pictures. Think I might try the scotchguard just for better protection, just spray it rite over the tape I guess ?

Spray it on in accordance instructions on the can. make sure to cover your windows though to protect against overspray.

Well, i stand corrected. But I honestly have NEVER seen this done on a softtop fresh off the line. I have seen it done to seal old leaky ones, but that is it. I know mine doesnt have this in it. the seems are black. Not masking tape beige.

As usual, Don-A-Vee comes to the rescue when the manufacturer and the lesser dealerships fail... "da - da - ta - dah!!! Over on the West Coast - it's a Jeeper, no it's a Dealer, no - it's... DON-A-VEE!"

This issue doesn't pertain to me, but you've shared some really good info on this forum, Jeff - a hearty thanks on behalf of everyone

I am very happy to help out. Make sure and post up if you tried the fix and it worked...or even if it didn't.

I decided to let the dealer handle this as it is after all their responsibility. I go in this morning to my dealer after waiting 6 days for an appointment to see their "top specialist." They also had a bulletin from Jeep that allowed them to order the "fix" from Jeep for the solution. As it turns out the fix is NOT any type of spray. It is actually the identical tape that was already in my Jeep! They are doing this on leaky tops from the factory to try and help seal the seems! It looks like crap and I cannot believe they are trying to pass it off...
But basically it is a heat activated tape that is supposed to seal the sew holes. Well obviously by my pictures below show it simply does not work, not to mention look terrible...
So after these rough 6 days I have FINALLY got the dealer to replace my top. The new top wont be here for a couple days so there will be even more waiting...
I love my Jeep but am disgusted at how I got treated when I purchased their top of the line....
