Does it say it somewhere?

Easiest way go to a jeep dealership and ask them to look up your vin # and they will know all the options even gear ratios

I'm still learning about Jeeps and found it very odd when I was told that you don't really know what you have. To me it seems like it should be listed or standard unless otherwise requested by the buyer. Isn't like maybe 50 roll off the line and they could all have several different types and you don't know what your gettin unless you ask? When I found that out I called a dealership service dept and gave them my vin and they told me what I had.

Yeah that doesn't make sense to me either, kinda frustrating

The dealer told me I had 4.10 gears which is better for off road. Well what if that's not what I wanted- and wanted something better for more highway? Nobody knows unless you ask

Jack the back of your jeep up. Mark your driveshaft. While watching your driveshaft spin, count the revolutions until your tire makes a complete revolution. The number of turns gives your ratio. Have transmission in neutral while doing this.

If your driveshaft turns about 3 1/4 turns to on turn of your tire, your ratio is 3.21:1. 4 1/8 turns of your driveshaft to one turn of tire, your ratio is 4.10:1.

Does it matter if you do this in the front or rear? And would different traction aids change results? My front drive shaft rotated 5 1/8 revolutions. So if there are no other factors to this I'd say I have 5.13. Also there is a clicking when I spin the wheel coming from the diff. Sounds like a ratchet could this come from a limited slip or a true trac type locker? The previous owner told me it had limited slip and 4.10s. But I don't think so. Any ideas?
