That's an awesome report. Any repairs or issues?

Yeah but that's not a PENTASTAR (engine) issue.

The cylinder head at 10K was alarming.

Cylinder head at 10k is not ideal, but not really alarming. The early 2012 builds had a small percentage of engines with faulty left side head. That's why fiat extended the warranty on those from 2012 up to 150,000 miles. My 2012 is now at 93,000 and has had no real problems.

Except that there are reports of 2013+ JKs with the same cylinder head failures and FCA has not extended the warranty for those, only for the 2012. I for one have little confidence they have actually resolved the issue with the >2012 design.

Plus in any case, failure of the cylinder head is catastrophic any way you look at it. Just because they warranty it doesn't excuse the poor QC and design in the first place. I mean, my JKU hand brake assy destroyed itself and it was a pretty significant disruption in my life to have to IMMEDIATELY take it to the dealer for a warranty repair since the Jeep was essentially unusable until it was fixed. Difference is that repair (which actually took a tech 15 minutes to do) only took 2 days at the dealer while I'm sure a cylinder head replacement takes at least a week, not to mention the number of times you likely have to take it back while they goof around trying to replace coil packs and spark plugs in hopes the design flaw will somehow heal itself.

The fact that these cylinder heads fail within 10K or 100K is indicative of horrific quality on the part of FCA. In this day and age, this kind of failure should be unheard of.

Of course, who's the fool? The designers or the guy who bought two of their vehicles (that would be me...)?

Anyway, once the check engine light comes on on my 2015 JKU, I'm going to have a hard time not selling it immediately. I mean, I really like my Jeep, but I need a vehicle that I can rely on.

101,500 2013 Rubi.

Have had a faulty oil pressure sending unit, a known issue with some 2013 Pentastars, why it is mounted underneath the lower intake manifold inside the lifter valley is beyond me. (I know the Pentastar is OHC, but I don’t know what else to call that region of the engine).

I have also had the casting sand in the cooling system issue, and a cracked thermostat housing, other than that, no issues with the engine itself. I don’t have any intention of ever selling the Jeep, so we will se how long it lasts.

Happy Jeeping!
