I joined the club... broken
I blame Jeep's engineers for their use of plastic clips to attach the shifter (auto trans) to the trans linkage.
Story:
I was driving forward, pulled off the road into a parking spot. I shifted into reverse to center myself. I attempted to shift into "Park" to only realize that the shifter was already in Park, but the trans was in reverse.
She currently sits at the dealer after Tim the Tow-man took her away. I hope to have it back tomorrow / Thursday, if they have to order parts.
I still love my Jeep!

Did not realize that this was happening to the auto's--but have read of plenty of transfer cases that break those plastic clips. There is even an aftermarket replacement for the entire cable assembly. I have used a couple of Zip-ties crossing each other around the linkage point to beef it up on my transfer case. Would something like that work for the auto transmission cable?

This one scares me. Hate to get stuck out in the middle of the woods cause of a plastic clip. At least it happened where you could easily address it.
While off road, sometimes I'll pull off the trial and leave the Jeep parked on unlevel ground. When I get back in and try to put it back in gear (auto), it feels as if I'm forcing the shifter and you can hear a snap when it finally moves.
Is there a solid mod to address this?

I did not know the auto shifter had the same problem as the T-case.
That ain't good. Is the way to access the linkage from inside the Jeep, pulling the shifter out? Or underneath?
It is really tight underneath with a 545 trans.
I need to look at it before it happens, develop a plan now for both the auto and T-case linkages.
No warranty here.
