I may be crazy
i have a spare set of mud tires that i put on when i go wheeling... i have the TF 2.5" BB... that always stays on. I am looking to get a set of highway tires for long trips... that was i dont tear up my AT's that are on there... i figure... i like the look of cragar soft eights in black... they are 50 bucks a wheel... i can have matching sets with all kinds of tires depending on what i am doing...
the whole lift removal... if it was the BB and you for some reason WANTED to remove it... that is the only lift that I could see being worth doing b/c it really does not take that long.
ANY other lift (other than spacer and stop lifts) would be a royal PITA to take on and off...
besides.. if you are concerned with gas milage, the only thing that will truly affect it is the heavier and larger tires/wheels... the lift itself depending on the height may alter your aerodynamics... but I doubt it would have any significant effect on your MPG...
HOWEVER...
when you install a 4-5" lift... i want to see it with the 225 stockers!!

it was the Rough Country 2.5" BB with shocks that I was looking to do...
and I would be running the Rubi 255 M/T's as my street wheels and probably a set of 35" BFG M/T KM2's as my wheeling tire, on probably Soft 8's because they look great and are cheap.

With that set up, I would not bother removing the lift. Just swap wheels/tires and save a little at the pump that way. Though we are all takin it up the a$$ at the pump regardless of set up.
Leave the lift on. Changing out the wheels is the best route here. I have done it in the past and while a PIA it is not too bad with a good jack and an impact wrench. A lot of guys do it before and after every hunting season around here because it saves wear and tear on expensive MT tires not just the gas savings. Think about it if you decrease the use of the tires by half they last twice as long and that saves you a lot in the long run. Also the ride on the road is better with AT or even street tires than it is with any MT.
