Default If you had it to do again! What would you do diffrent??

Ive always wanted a Jeep!!!
Im finally in a position to make it happen and I have several questions for you good folks if you could tolerate another Noob!
Ive been lurking for sometime and have read quite a bit but would like you opinion.
I want a 2dr and want the look (lifted 3"to4"max) but its got to back it up, it will be used off road but I need it to be driveable longer distances. Im not hung up on a auto.
I went to a Dealership yesterday that had the Jeep I thought I would build ready to go (2007 Rubicon 2dr) 35000 miles,4" lift,35s,wench ect ect and a (2010 Sport 2dr) 12000 miles pure stock both auto and hard tops.
The Rubi $23,000.00, 2010 Sport $21,500.00.
After driving the Rubi which quite frankly Ive driven backhoes on the road that handled better!!! Im looking for some guidance.
The 2010 drove great but had a water leak on the right side front of the roof I dont think this is a big issue.
Can you find one "done" that your not buying someone elses problem?
What do you think of the pricng of the 2010?
Would you consider build up of the 2010 if that was the Jeep for you?
If building what would be the order of what you would do and what would you not do ect, ect?
My budget for this project is not to exceed $30,000.00
Thanks in advance!!!!

I tend to agree. if you are not familiar withJeeps or know who built it, I would definitely look for a stock Jeep. On a jk that is built if it's not done right there could be a buttload wrong with it.

On the flipside , do you have someone that can look at the jeep?If they can verify the rubi is a decent build, I would buy the Rubicon.

There are Jeeps for sale on the forum. Here is a good one a few hours drive north of you. Not bad for a nice Jeep.

I bought my '09 Rubicon Unlimited with a 4.5" lift and 35" Toyo MT's already on it. I've had it for almost 2 years and have had no problems with it. Sometimes you get lucky and just find the right one for you. I love my Jeep!

If you have a $30k budget you can get a 2 door 2012 for $24k, and get some 35s and a 3" lift. That's what I would do.

x2

I just watched some '12s run 0-60 in 6.9 seconds in some vids.. those things will fly. Turning large tires over with a '12 will be cheaper because if you get the factory 3.73s or 4.11s you'll never really need gears in the future.

Had an 08, now have a 12 rubi w 4.10s and auto.

A little lift, a few low cost mods.

Very capable off-roader, nice DD and pretty classy.

If there is even a hint that you might want the 4 door, get it.

All I wanted was a 2 door. It wasn't a money thing, I just wasn't really a fan of the 4 door. Within a week of buying the 2012 2 door I was kicking myself in the ass.

Funny how I wanted the 4 door so quickly, even though I hardly ever have even 1 passenger.

I blame this site, especially one sweet rescue green JKU with black wheels.

I had a X with just a 2" budget lift, rubi tires, and a winch and i took that thing everywhere. When i did it again i got a Rubi with the lockers and the 4.10 gears (how much nicer...) and put a 2" lift and winch right back on it.

You don't need much to get pretty far in a JK. If you're driving a lot in a city I would prefer not to lift it too high and not go higher than 33s even though it would be really cool.
