I am remiss which led you to writing that silly comment. The pic of the sign I forgot to post: Please note the manufacturer's name in big letters ...

It's a jeep you uncultured swine.
Just kidding, but I don't classify it as an SUV because the current market of SUV's have nothing to show for.

When I lived on Guam all kinds of folks drove "jeeps". That is, their 4WD vehicles, no matter what kind as long as it had some remote off-road capability, were called "jeeps". My roommate owned the only Jeep on the island (a CJ-7), and used to really get annoyed by that.

The other day I was watching an episode of the 1960s BBC series "The Avengers" (no, not those Avengers), and noted that they were driving an off-road vehicle that wasn't a Land Rover (their usual choice). They also called it a "jeep".

Finally, SUV did not come into popular usage until the 1980s. I wonder what my roommate's Guam registration for his CJ read? I wonder what those other folks who drove "jeeps" said? I seriously doubt SUV. That is recently popularized (1980s), and an awkward mouthful to use in line with truck, car, etc. Suv. Folks who come up to me and ask about or compliment me on my Jeep don't say, "Wow, nice suv you got there." No, sorry, I don't drive a suv. I drive a Jeep.

I know from my travels, in North Africa/Arabia and in most of Asia any type of "SUV" that is for off road use is a "jeep" regardless of brand.

My registration calls it a wagon. Must be a 4 door thing.

I went and looked up the very definition of SUV. I had always thought that SUV was describing a unibody 4x4. I was mistaken! Fun learning new things huh.?

I am not fond of the station wagon reference but when looking at a 4 dr wrangler---i can see why they said it.

Jeep SUV?

I'm just stating the obvious, but from a gas mileage and emissions standard, and safety requirement standpoint the government has to lump the JK into one of the few categories available. I don't know what all those categories are ( car, truck, SUV etc.) but I bet none are called "Jeep"!

We just bought a new Subaru Forrester, which is considered an SUV. I found it interesting that the Subaru Outback, which is very similar, is classified as a station wagon. If you put a Forrester and Outback side by side it's hard to see any significant difference.

Oh well!
