Jeep Commercials.......

Cool. I think there's a sticky thread with commercials--you should put this one in there. And, as far as the commercial: I like that it features more of the Jeep than the previous two I've seen. I also like that it silently carries forward the theme of "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand."

If this is in here already, I apologize. I looked through the last few pages, but I didn't click on all the links.
Anyway, here's the story. Over Thanksgiving, my girlfriend asks me with a look of disgust on her face "have you seen the new Jeep commercial? The one with the girls at the hair salon?" I hadn't. She made me so proud when she said with surprising contempt, "It was like the only reason you'd buy a Jeep is because it's convertible. That's basically the whole message of the commercial." She also said, "It's one like yours, not one of those other ones." This made me laugh, but then I realized that she might not know the name "Wrangler" but she does understand that it's not convertible SUV for trendy idiots.
So, I looked it up, and it's pretty lame. I guess you do what it takes to sell product. Perhaps it's better than going under? I can think of a million ways to rationalize it, but it feels like a sellout. I like going topless as much as anyone, but in Lousisana, I think that's the last reason you buy one.

They are going after the younger hip crowd. Trying to made it (the Jeep) look cool.
The more Jeep Wranglers they sell the better for us Jeep owners, the better for Chrysler and the economy.

I think its smart marketing. You don't have to sell a 30 year old guy on how great it would be to drive a Jeep. But, trying to open the market to other potential buyers is how Chrysler will succeed. Thats business and I think it will pay off for them. Plus more Jeeps on the road should mean better dealer and aftermarket support for everyone.
I didn't need a commercial to sell me a Jeep, but some may.
